At Chafyn Godolphin, we believe that pupils thrive when they feel happy, supported and valued. Wellbeing is at the heart of school life, underpinning every aspect of a child’s academic, social and personal development. Our aim is to create an environment where every pupil feels known as an individual, encouraged to be themselves and empowered to achieve their full potential.

We know that every child’s journey is unique. That’s why our pastoral approach is built on strong relationships, ensuring that pupils feel safe, supported and able to flourish both in and beyond the classroom. Through a culture of kindness, respect and inclusivity, we help pupils develop the confidence, resilience and self-belief needed to navigate challenges and embrace opportunities.

A Strong Support Network

The quality of relationships between pupils and staff sits at the centre of everything we do. Our dedicated pastoral team works closely with teachers, tutors and families to ensure every child receives the care, guidance and encouragement they need.

Form Tutors are the first point of contact for both pupils and parents, building strong relationships with their tutor groups and providing consistent support throughout the school year. Regular communication between home and school helps ensure that every child feels understood, celebrated and supported.

Alongside tutors, pupils also have access to a wider wellbeing network, including senior pastoral leaders, Emotional Literacy Support Assistants (ELSAs), counsellors and other specialist support services when required.

Our pupil-led Peer Mentoring Programme provides an additional layer of support within the school community. Based on the AMBIT (Adaptive Mentalization-Based Integrative Treatment) model, the programme equips trained student mentors with skills in active listening, empathy and reflective thinking. Rather than giving advice, mentors learn how to help their peers feel heard, explore challenges and develop their own solutions. The programme not only supports the wellbeing of younger pupils but also enables mentors to develop confidence, communication skills and emotional intelligence, strengthening our culture of kindness, understanding and mutual support.

Wellbeing in Action

Wellbeing is woven throughout the curriculum and daily life at Chafyn Godolphin. Our PSHE programme helps pupils develop emotional awareness, healthy relationships, resilience and essential life skills, equipping them for success both now and in the future.

We also provide a range of initiatives designed to support wellbeing, including:

  • Mini Eights, is our vertical tutoring system for Prep School. Children are grouped across year groups to share in a wide range of varied activities.
  • Wellbeing Week, an annual programme of workshops, activities and guest speakers focused on physical, emotional and mental wellbeing. A whole school initiative.
  • Mindfulness and coping strategies, which help pupils build resilience and manage challenges with confidence.
  • Residential trips and outdoor experiences, offering opportunities for personal growth, teamwork and independence.

Community and Belonging

A strong sense of belonging is central to the Chafyn Godolphin experience. We encourage pupils to look after one another, celebrate differences and contribute positively to the school community. Through leadership opportunities, mentoring, peer support and everyday interactions, pupils learn the value of empathy, responsibility and respect.

We are proud of our warm and inclusive culture, where every pupil is known as an individual and encouraged to develop meaningful relationships with both their peers and staff. Opportunities to collaborate across year groups help foster a strong sense of community, ensuring younger pupils feel supported and older pupils have the chance to develop leadership skills and serve as positive role models.

By creating an environment where pupils feel safe, valued and connected, we help them develop the confidence to be themselves, embrace new challenges and make a positive contribution to school life. This strong sense of belonging underpins wellbeing, enabling pupils to flourish academically, socially and personally.

All children are unique and, here at Chafyn Godolphin, we ensure that their individual needs are met with the utmost care and attention throughout both the Prep and Senior School. We have a dedicated team of highly qualified staff who work tirelessly to create an environment in which every child feels nurtured, supported and safe.

In the Prep School, our specialist learning support provision, The Link, offers tailored support for pupils in Years 3-8. This may include help with spelling and reading, maths intervention, study skills, or support for diagnosed learning differences such as dyslexia. Wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do, and The Link provides a calm, safe space where pupils can build confidence and develop strategies to succeed. Additional opportunities, such as touch typing, are also available where appropriate.

As pupils move into the Senior School, support continues through the SEND department who work in close collaboration between pastoral and academic staff, ensuring that individual needs are recognised and met. Whether through targeted intervention, classroom support, mentoring or one-to-one guidance, we work in partnership with pupils and families to help every child thrive, both academically and personally.

WELLBEING HUB

In the Prep School, the Library also serves as a Wellbeing Hub, offering pupils the Prep a calm alternative to the playground or busy social spaces during break times. It is a welcoming environment where children can read, colour, play chess, complete a puzzle, catch up on work or simply enjoy some quiet time. The Senior School pupils also have access to the senior library for calm and reflective moments.
